WALK THROUGH
One of the first things you see when you log onto to the mobile version of Sydney’s
cityrail.nsw.gov.au is a link for "Timetables", which goes through to a page with (an admittedly quite far down) choice of timetables, depending on the route you need.
Choose the route you need and you’ll get a long list of times and a rather helpful glossary as well. There’s also a button if you want to change direction or find out weekend times instead, as well as a facility for finding out about any scheduled works happening on the tracks.
Back on the homepage, there’s a list of relevant news items including travel advice for city events. At the bottom is a fare calculator link with every possible fare result, a journey planner, advice on the best places to visit in and around Sydney and how to get there, with links to the stations nearby where you’ll find a tick list of facilities available there.
There are relevant links to other public transport sites and a large section relating to disabled travellers. Included is information on integrated transport connections where you can find out which stations have facilities like an elevator or a bus stop nearby. It’s a useful for anyone using public transport, whether you’re wheelchair-bound, a cyclist or a parent with a buggy – plus there’s a number to call.
There’s also an impressively detailed page on how to gain assistance to board a train, plus a check-list of the facilities available on each train for people with a disability, whether they are deaf or use a mobility aid. There’s even a section on which animals are allowed on board, plus a downloadable application for an assistance animal pass as well as a phone number to call.
Lastly there’s a section on night travel, the safety measures introduced and instructions on how to take advantage of them. There’s even a timetable, map, fare information and phone number for the night buses after the train have stopped, complete with a cab service that can be called on the bus.
