Facebook
It's the social networking site that has taken the world by storm - if internet chatter was loud before, it's pretty much cacophonous now. And now you can get your fix whenever and wherever you are with the mobile version.
WHO WILL USE IT?
Anyone who has an account on
facebook.com and wants to explore the world of the social network when mobile.
WALK THROUGH
Simply enter the email and password you registered with on the website and away you go.
Depending on how new your profile is or whether you’ve added any friends, you’ll find a “Newsfeed” telling you who your friends have recently chummed up with, followed by an inbox link and any upcoming event invites you’ve not responded to yet. Click through and all your messages will be displayed – it’s simple to click on the name of the message sender to get to their profile as well as their message and also to reply.
Back on the homepage, your own most recent status update is directly below the inbox link, with the option to enter a new one, plus the latest updates of three of the friends on your list, which link to their profile. Click the “See All” tab and messaging and “poking’ facility will come up.
You’ll also find a link to the self-explanatory “Photos of Friends” tab, as well as a link for friends’ notes, writing your own note, the groups you’ve joined and events you are a part of.
A profile homepage with a status update and a menu
Go to your own profile via a link near the bottom where there is also a facility for enabling your applications but only the ones you have already activated on your profile on the website. Your mobile profile is basically a scaled down version of your website profile but contains all the basic facilities. There’s also another link for your inbox and a “Contacts” tab, which lists the names of all your Facebook friends and their email addresses.
The search function near the bottom of the homepage is good for tracking down names of friends and adding them as Facebook friends.
